Climbing Shoe Fitting
First the questions:
When seeking a new climbing shoe, you need to ask yourself 'What type of climbing do I do & What type of climber am I?'
Person A = Hard Bouldering, Hard Sport Climbing and Elite Trad Climbing = Technical Shoes
Person B = Hard Trad Climbing, Mid Grade Bouldering and Sport Climbing = Semi Technical Fit
Person C = All purpose Trad Climbing, Sun Rock Sport Climbers and Circuit Bouldering = Traditional Fit
Person D = Beginners or people who only climb a few times a year = Entry level
Initial Impressions:
A climbing shoe should be a comfortable but snug fit. It should not be crippling or cause pain at any one point.
All climbing shoes that are a snug and comfortable fit, will mould, shape and stretch a bit to the shape of the foot, producing a personlised fit. The length of time and to what extent varies on the shoe construction and amount worn. However if you start out with pressure points against the foot and painful parts, these will usually not improve.
Despite what you think and want!:
You need to find a shoe that fits your shape of foot, even if in your heart of hearts you want a particular make and model, if it is not right for your foot it never will be.
Different makes and models fit different types of feet better and it is a matter of finding that comfortable and snug fit, in a shoe that is as close to the type you want.
